Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for his conduct in a domestic T20 match.

The Beximco Dhaka captain was in action in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup when he confronted teammate Nasum Ahmed.

Footage showed him making an “insulting gesture” towards Ahmed in a bizarre episode after the pair both chased a ball to midwicket and Rahim reached it first.

After being found guilty of the act, one demerit point was also added to Rahim's disciplinary record, according to a release from the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

While Dhaka ultimately won the game by nine runs, much was on the line for Rahim’s side as they sought to remain in contention for the final. His behaviour as the innings progressed was increasingly volatile in the face of misfields and slack bowling.

Later in the same innings, Rahim threatened to hit Ahmed after the two collided while the wicketkeeper, a veteran of 374 international appearances, completed a straightforward catch.

He has since apologised and has also accepted his sanction without the need for a hearing.

On his Facebook page on Tuesday morning, he wrote: “I have already apologised after the game to my fellow teammate Nasum. Secondly, I seek forgiveness from Almighty. I always remember I am a human being above all and the gesture that I have shown was not acceptable at all.”
