Hampshire have confirmed that Liam Dawson will miss the rest of the county season through injury.

Dawson ruptured his right Achilles while batting against Middlesex in the Bob Willis Trophy at Radlett and requires surgery.

He will go under the knife next week but faces a long rehabilitation period which could last as long as six months.

The allrounder had been selected in England's white-ball squad for the recent series against Ireland at the Ageas Bowl.

He was playing his first competitive game of the season when he landed awkwardly while playing a shot off his hips and had to be stretchered from the field of play.
