Kent batsman Sean Dickson has joined Durham, initially on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The opener’s move will then become permanent from November 1, having turned down the offer of a contract extension at Kent.

The 28-year-old made his Kent debut in 2015, then going on to make 120 appearances for the club, scoring 4,450 runs at an average of 32.72.

His 318 against Northamptonshire back in 2017 was the highest post-war first-class innings posted by a Kent batsman.

He was also part of the side that reached the 2018 Royal London Cup final in 2018, also playing his part in the county’s County Championship promotion in the same year.

Kent director of cricket Paul Downton said: “Sean has been a good servant to Kent Cricket during his four seasons here, both with the bat and in the field.

“His attitude on and off the field has been exemplary and everyone associated with the club wishes Sean all the best for the future.”

Durham director of cricket Marcus North added: “We’re delighted that Sean has signed for Durham and we have been able to secure the signature of a proven performer in English cricket.

“Sean’s record in first-class cricket is exceptional, with a track record of scoring big hundreds and a reputation as one of the best fielders in the country, he will bring additional experience and quality to the Durham squad.

“We look forward to welcoming Sean to the North East and seeing him make a big impact at Emirates Riverside.”

Durham have also announced that James Weighell and Ben Whitehead will leave the club when their contracts expire.
